My AWS Solution Architect Recertification Journey
--
I recently went through the process of recertifying as an AWS Solution Architect, and I wanted to share my experience with anyone who is preparing for the exam. Also, check out my post if ChatGPT can pass the AWS exam.
Overall, it took me about 3 weeks of dedicated study and practice to prepare for the exam. The effort is actually as much as the last time when I took my first exam. My main materials are this udemy course and practice exams. There are also free materials from AWS itself, which is very helpful.
One of the things that I found most challenging during my preparation was keeping up with the many new improvements and updates that have been made to AWS since my last certification in 2020. A few of the new improvements and updates that I encountered during my preparation include:
- You can now mount EBS to multiple instances. It is going to be another choice for a shared-disk architecture use case.
- S3 is now strong-read-after-write consistent. Now you can trust all of your S3 API call.
- There is a whole family of FSx storage family that I didn’t know during my last exam.
- Global Accelerator is basically Cloudfront for UDP
- And there are a lot more!
Overall, going through the process of recertifying as an AWS Solution Architect helped me to refresh my memory of the platform and update myself with the latest technology.
As an architect, I believe it’s important to have a solid understanding of the cloud platforms you’re working with, and recertification is a great way to ensure that you’re up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. I plan to get one or two specialty certificates this year or might go to the professional one.
Whether you’re an experienced AWS Solution Architect looking to recertify, or a new architect just starting out, I hope that my experience will help guide your own journey
